A Carlisle organisation has been shortlisted for two national green awards.
The Rebuild Site has been named as a finalist in the Green Micro Enterprise of the Year and Excellence in Waste Management categories at the Green Awards UK 2026.
Founded in 2021, the organisation works with construction companies to rescue surplus building materials that would otherwise become waste, redistributing them to community groups, charities, schools, contractors and the public for reuse.
Since launching, it has supported more than 280 community initiatives across Cumbria and South West Scotland.
The Rebuild Site has developed one of the UK’s first dedicated construction material reuse hubs and has previously been recognised through regional sustainability awards.
Founder and chief executive Emma Porter said: “Being shortlisted in two national categories is a fantastic achievement for our small team.
“It reflects the growing recognition that construction materials have value long after they’re no longer needed on site.
“We’re passionate about finding practical solutions that reduce waste while supporting local communities, and it’s wonderful to see that approach recognised at a national level.”
The winners of the Green Awards UK 2026 will be announced later this year at a ceremony in London
