A new online platform connecting Cumbrian businesses with cleaners and housekeepers on a shift-by-shift basis has been launched.

Founded by Fiona Shore, Top Up Talent offers a flexible solution to staffing challenges such as recruitment issues, sickness or covering annual leave.

It allows accommodation providers and other commercial businesses to submit available shifts on the platform and qualified housekeepers/cleaners who have signed up to the scheme are matched based on their availability and criteria.

As well as benefiting businesses in need of ad hoc cover, it gives cleaners and housekeepers greater flexibility to work when they want and earn extra income.

Fiona Shore runs Near Howe Cottages – a holiday retreat in the Lake District with luxury self-catering cottages and campervan pitches.

She said: “As somebody who works in the tourist industry, I know from personal experience how challenging it can be for businesses to find housekeeping and / or cleaning staff – but I also know there are cleaners available and looking for work.

“Top Up Talent is very much aimed at helping meet this real need and we hope that as it grows it can help ease some of the staffing pressures in Cumbria’s holiday and hospitality industry.”

Once registered with the platform, businesses are able to request a housekeeper/cleaner for a specified date, time and hourly pay rate.

Meanwhile, cleaners or housekeepers looking for work simply say when they’re available, state which geographical areas they’re willing to cover and outline their hourly rate. Only shifts matching their criteria will then be offered to them to accept or decline.
